Course Overview
A major challenge to the successful management of breast and gynecologic cancers is the timeliness of diagnosis. Lack of knowledge about early symptoms can lead to delayed diagnoses and poor clinical outcomes. This half-day course, designed for medical, radiation and surgical oncologists, primary care physicians, gynecologists, nurse practitioners, and other interested clinicians, will enhance practitioners' knowledge in identifying and managing early breast and gynecologic malignancies. Through lecture and Q&A, participants will consider appropriate clinical work-ups for several cancerous/pre-cancerous breast and gynecologic conditions and examine the appropriate use of MRI for breast cancer screening and management. In addition, faculty will share updates on treatment advances in ovarian cancer and hormone responsive breast cancer.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to: identify women who are at higher risk for developing ovarian cancer; conduct a clinical work-up of DCIS; determine which patients require a referral for breast MRI; clarify the significance of vaginal bleeding, including its potential role in gynecologic cancer, in postmenopausal women; describe treatment options for hormone responsive cancers that include consideration of menopausal status; and utilize surgical, medical and/or radiation treatment options for early stage ER+ breast cancer.
ACGME COMPETENCIES: This course is designed to enhance one or more of the following Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education competencies: Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, and Practice-based Learning and Improvement.
